Alcohol use is accountable for many unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, violence, vandalism, crime, overdose, other substance use, and high-risk behavior, resulting in a heavy burden of social and health costs. This will take approximately one page. Remember that you still need to use paragraphs for various points throughout the subtopic. Although heavy drinking among older adolescents and young adults has declined over the past decades, there has been no decline among college students.

Some are calling for a public debate about lowering the legal drinking age to 18 years old. They have suggested that the current legal drinking age of 21 years is not working to prevent youths from using alcohol and experiencing the negative consequences of drinking.

Although declines have been shown in drinking, traffic fatalities, and related harms since the minimum legal drinking age of 21 years became law the Amethyst Initiative suggests that the observed declines are a result of other factors, such as improvements in motor vehicle safety, and not the change in the minimum legal drinking age Wechsler 6.

Drinking among young adults aged 18—20 years has not decrease; it has only been driven underground, behind closed doors, and away from bars, where it could be more carefully monitored.

There are hundreds of known cases of college students dying in frat houses after they had too much to drink. Alcohol consumption and at what age it should occur has and always will be a very controversial topic. If the drinking age was lowered back down to 18 I believe it would decrease drinking related problems in our country. I believe if we were to lower the drinking age to 18 and make an alcohol education class mandatory for all 11 th grade high school students, that drinking related problems would drastically decrease.

Young adults would not feel the need to sneak it and not get so much joy out of drinking it and getting drunk because it was legal. We are the only country with this big of a problem with alcohol and we need to do something to stop it. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Twitter account. Recommendations and Conclusion Alcohol consumption and at what age it should occur has and always will be a very controversial topic.

Restate argument Young adults would not feel the need to sneak it and not get so much joy out of drinking it and getting drunk because it was legal. Then, in rebellion, those underage will just find a way around it. This kind of deceitful attitude does not encourage responsible drinking habits.

In addition, this gives young individuals the urge to drink even more when they get older so that they could make up for their so-called lost time, hence causing alcoholism. The argument against changing the legal drinking age has many issues. Studies show that there was a thirteen- percent decline in the number of single-vehicle nighttime crashes among eighteen through twenty year-olds after the drinking age was raised to twenty-one. I believe that there will always be people that will drink and drive, and there is nothing anyone can do to completely stop it.

The answer is not to raise the drinking age, but rather to educate more thoroughly the dangers of drinking alcohol to the youth. The United States is one of the few countries with such a prohibitive drinking age.

In Europe, teenagers learn how to drink gradually, not excessively. In France, Spain and Portugal, the per capita consumption of alcohol is greater than in the United States, but the rate of alcoholism and alcohol abuse is still lower.

That is the effect of educated and gradual drinking. Learning how to drink in a safe and moderate manner is more important than worrying about the age of the individual. I believe that the arguments that were made as far as the number of car crashes there were after the legal drinking age was raised was merely a coincidence.

People of all ages get into car accidents. Instead of restricting the eighteen year-old adults, the government should set up ways to better educate the public of the dangers and responsibilities that come with drinking. The arguments against lowering the age of the National Minimum Purchase Age Act are insufficient compared to the benefits of having the drinking age changed to eighteen. Since the number twenty-one has no real basis of maturity, the government should have kept the legal drinking age where it was and kept the public educated rather than taking a right away from the adults under the age of twenty-one.
